I have been looking at NPR'S sister program called KQED a lot recently.
They have fantastic video resources around the artistic elements. They have curated this series of videos in such a way where every discipline and avenue is explored through the elements.
I have found them to be a fantastic visual stimulant in the classroom and a catalyst for free flowing discussion around artistic practice.
"Art School is a KQED Arts series featuring contemporary artists working in fine art, performance, digital art, and more. Meet professional artists and learn about their personal histories and intentions, then follow along as they demonstrate how to make all kinds of art, from comics to beatboxing rhythms. Get creative with the new wave of Art School. Tuition is free."
LOOKING AT ONES SELF
I had my second year students looking at the importance of the self portrait last term.
we looked at 3 very different artists that they had to choose from to emulate in the background of their own personal portrait.
Detail of one of the students finished pieces.
Details of one of the students final pieces.
I was very happy with how the works played out, the students got a chance to see three very different artists and three very different styles.
