Looking back on adolescence can be a contrasting emotional landscape for different types of people.
Some people might look back on there adolescence through rose tinted glasses, while others wince
at the thought of remembering.

That reality is ongoing for the students i am teaching. They either are having a fantastic time growing
up through school or they are barely making it in to school as the thought of it is too hard. Why is
there such contrasting thought process around growing up? How can i support my students through
this time? How do i create a purposeful learning environment for the students while making sure
everyone feels part of a safe community regardless of our differences around our personal tastes
or our socio economic status.

According to Erik Eriksons stages of psycho-social development the students go through schooling
enduring the psycho-social crisis of identity/role confusion. As a teacher i am navigating the waters
of each individual's thoughts/feelings and emotions while trying to keep a professional judgement
around this. But empathy has to come into play here with these individual students.

These individuals are going through changes, and in the words of David Bowie
“ So I turned myself
to face me, but i never caught a glimpse”.
They are trying to see themselves in a light they like, they are trying to find their sense of self around
20 other students trying to do the exact same thing. all of their peers are going through this identity crisis
all of these students brains are still developing. it creates a minefield of emotions and conflicting
personalities.
