CBA ONE: A journey through the spaces we could inhabit.
CBA ONE
In this post i would like to discuss my experience with the new JCT. I think the experience as a whole as a student teacher was a lot to handle on top of getting to grips with the curriculum but after finishing this process i feel it was actually one that me and the students benefited greatly from.
I started the year off by trying to plan a suitable and engaging project that would interest the students from process to realisation.
As someone who enjoys architecture and the spaces we inhabit i decided to start something with the students that they had never tried before. i wanted them to come up with their own landmark building while learning about maquettes, paper and card weight and structural support along with a journey through aesthetic design and studying two differing architects.
Sketches of Frank Gehry Documentary on Youtube
the students did not watch this but i showed them suitable clips of the architect at work to show them a process.
This Video showing the students how to construct a building idea from a piece of paper was invaluable to me. it really showed how breaking down the barriers of " I cant do this" into "oh that looks easy"
This one work from this student really captured my eye, and it fit the brief perfectly. she really took a liking to manipulating card and paper to see what it can do and with hold. obviously the students were limited to just card and paper so they had to get creative to see how they could emulate things like steel and glass.
it was great for the students to reflect on what they had made and to pick apart the process to see what they had learnt. a majority of the class did very well in this CBA one task and i am glad that they got to try out this form of design.
